Loading Docs is a launchpad for New Zealand documentary shorts and documentary careers. As an initiative, Loading Docs is committed to supporting and developing diversity in both filmmaking talent and the platforms on which New Zealand documentary stories are seen. The programme takes filmmakers from idea to distribution and provides participants with support, training and networks.
Attracting an audience of over 13 million viewers so far, Loading Docs 2020 begins, offering audiences an upcoming collection about New Zealand’s hot topics and revolutionary people. Now in the crowdfunding phase, filmmakers must raise $2,500 to create stories about Chlöe Swarbrick, a young Muslim man inciting change following the Christchurch Mosque Attacks and table tennis star Chunli Li’s pursuit for Tokyo Olympic gold.
Seen on a myriad of platforms online, on demand and on the big screen. They have featured on high profile sites such as Short of the Week, The Atlantic, The World’s Best Ever, Great Big Story, Huffington Post, Upworthy, National Geographic and Film Shortage as well as achieving Staff Picks on Vimeo.
The success extends to primetime broadcasts in New Zealand, selection in festivals such as The NZIFF, Show Me Shorts, ImagineNATIVE (Canada), the 2015 Banff World Tour (US), FIFO (Tahiti), Sprout Film Festival (NY) and screening on Air New Zealand in-flight.
“Loading Docs launch another great collection of short homegrown docos… representing a unique professional development opportunity for filmmakers—and equally important, if not more so, some fantastic short-form viewing.”
Loading Docs is funded by NZ On Air and made with the support of the New Zealand Film Commission and Te Māngai Pāho.
